The upcoming open-world action role-playing game Elden Ring is being developed by FromSoftware the same producers of Dark Souls and Bloodborne and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin and Dark Souls director FromSoftware are teaming up on a new video game that's a spiritual successor to the Souls franchise. The game is scheduled for release on February 25, 2022, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
Gameplay
As a third-person game, Elden Ring features some of the same elements found in previous FromSoftware games. Specifically, it acts like "souls" and "bloodborne" in that it also involves combat and exploration. Miyazaki explained that there is a linear beginning, but the real game begins when you open up the whole world to explore. There are six main areas, plus castles, fortresses, and catacombs. The world is vast and open-ended. The main areas of the game are connected through a central hub. The hub is similar to Firelink Shrine from Dark Souls. Players can access the hub later in the game. It will be explorable with your mount as the main mode of transport, although a fast travel system will also be available.
Through the game, players will encounter NPCs and enemies, including the demigods who rule each main area. They will serve as the game's bosses. Combat in Elden Ring is a close-range melee fight with a focus on character-building elements. It's similar to previous Souls games and other related properties, such as calculated fighting skills, magic abilities, blocking, and dodging mechanics. You will be able to fight on your mount in Elden Ring, just like in Sekiro. In addition, the game will include a new stealth system based on the one from Sekiro. It will encourage you to plan your actions because each enemy is unique and should be approached differently.
The game will make use of a player character stamina bar. This feature was absent in Sekiro, but it was present in previous From Software titles. In this game, however, its overall influence over combat was reduced. Unlike in Sekiro, players will not be able to resurrect after death. However, some mechanics were added to ensure progression in the game.
Miyazaki stated that Elden Ring would be more customizable than previous FromSoftware games. Instead of unlocking skills through skill trees, players will discover different skills through exploring the map.
You can customize a character by choosing from a large variety of weapons, equipment, magic abilities, and items you can make using materials found in the world.
In this game, you can summon a powerful spirit that resembles an enemy you have previously defeated. The multiplayer feature enables other players to be summoned to assist you in battle. Similar to the Souls series, you can use an online co-op to play together.
